Planning a Visit

Access and Footwear
There is no disabled access to Hackfall, the terrain makes it impossible to provide access for wheel chairs and unless you are reasonably fit you will find the walk back up the slope challenging.

If you want to explore Hackfall at a reasonably leisurely pace then allow at least 2 hours.

The Hackfall Trust has done much to improve the footpaths but despite their best efforts there are areas that seem to be perpetually muddy. The recommended footwear is good hiking boots and in particularly wet conditions wellies are an alternative. The high path in Common Wood at the Mickley end of Hackfall is at the top of a very steep slope in places and particular care should be taken here.

Car Parking
The best place to park is in the new car park at the Masham end of Hackfall. The car park is free and sometimes busy, particularly when the river is high in summer and canoeists come to enjoy the falls.

Maps
Maps are provided on the path down towards Hackfall. These have been placed here by the Hackfall Trust and are there to aid your enjoyment of your visit. Please return them as you leave.

Toilets
There are no toilets on site. The nearest public toilets are in Masham (about 2 miles) behind the Bruce Arms and Old Police Station. See map below.
